8,000sf (August 2006 – September 2007), Partridge Architects

Partridge Architects designed their space with both green and aesthetic considerations in mind. By incorporating an open studio in the design and maximizing natural light, 35% fewer light fixtures were required than the average office. To further the green cause, a master timer with daylight and occupancy sensors was implemented, and the firm is now obtaining 50% of its electricity from an emission-free wind power company.

The construction of the project included the use of recycled materials where possible, the diversion of more than 75% of the construction waste from landfills and the use of no added formaldehyde. For better indoor air quality, low-emitting materials were used. This included all paints, adhesives, carpet, systems furniture and wood products. The floor finish in many areas included polishing, but not sealing, the existing concrete floor. For a dramatic entrance, the door was constructed of Kirei board and inset with Paperstone. Kirei board is an engineered panel product constructed from stalks leftover after the harvest of Sorghum-a plant grown around the world for food. Paperstone is a surfacing material made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

As recognition of outstanding green office design, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded this project Gold Certification in LEED for Commercial Interiors.

Partridge Architects is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and Delaware Valley Green Building Council.
